Rider spotlight: Sofie

Words byHayley Hayley

At Rocycle we’re all about Mind Body Music, but, just as important is the fact that we’re a family. So, to make sure each class is not just a party but a reunion, we’d like to introduce some of our Ro’Regulars. You’ve probably noticed our killer online content and wondered who was behind it. Well, today we have the pleasure of introducing you to our digital dreamgal, Sofie Bennekers. Keep reading to find out where Sofie picks up lunch every day, what she likes to nibble on after her workout and what Rocycle means to her.

Hi Sofie! We are so happy to finally chat with you and share your story. Can you introduce yourself?

Hi! I am Sofie, the branding creative at Rocycle. I’ve worked here since October 2017 after graduating from Academie Artemis. Time moves so quickly! I really feel at home here.

Rocycle really does feel like home, right? Speaking of, where is actual home for you? Amsterdam?

Yes! I grew up in Amsterdam living with my father near the Vondelpark and my mother in Buitenveldert. I love my city.

So you’ve always called Amsterdam home, but can you tell us how you began to call Rocycle home?

I knew about Rocycle from my friends, and I tried it once before I began working here. After I graduated, I searched for a full-time job immediately because I couldn’t wait to learn and use my skills in the real world. I happened to check the Rocycle site and saw the branding vacancy, and I knew the job was perfect.

We think it’s a perfect fit too. Obviously you’re around the studio a lot, morning, noon and night, but would you say you’re an early bird or a night owl?

I really need my sleep haha. I wake up early during the week, and I like to go out late at the weekend.

And when you’re not riding here, how do you like to exercise?

I try to work out as much as I can and like to try new things. I did a 6-week boot camp trial at The Trainers and tried Core Power Yoga last week at Equal. And I like to do boxing at the Vondelgym. Or the Peoples Place gym with Herns. I like barre too! I like to mix it up and for it to be intense. I know it sounds like I work out every day, but that’s not the case.

Sounds like a pretty good balance. Do you have a favourite healthy hotspot in Amsterdam?

I am totally addicted to Soup En Zo right now. It’s my lunch every day, as it’s next to our office, healthy and goooood. I try to eat healthy during the week, but when it’s the weekend, I like to eat everything.

Everything in moderation, including moderation! When you’re not working or working out, how do you like to unwind from your hectic lifestyle?

Eating cheese platters and drinking wine with friends. Food is life. I like to try new restaurants, and I recently started Japanese Tuesday. I love Japanese food after my workouts (and don’t forget the sake). I also like to look for inspiration, new books, magazines and exhibitions.

Sake Tuesdays! We want to join! So, we love all the creative juice you pump into Rocycle, but we are wondering: will we ever see you up on that instructor bike?

Haha I get that question a lot. When I tell people I work at Rocycle, they think that I am an instructor. I would love it, but then my life would be 24/7 Rocycle. Not that that would be a bad thing! I would rather focus on creative stuff and keep workouts to my spare time. Maybe someday!

We’ll cross our fingers. Continuing on the Rocycle bent, can you tell us how you see Rocycle evolving in the future?

I see Rocycle spreading across the globe. It’s for everyone. Our community is strong and growing every day. We are here to put a smile on your face. The Ro’riders mean so much to us, but we’d also like to give back to the community in the form of charity. I believe we can make the world a better place.

We couldn’t agree more. Ok, we promise we’re almost done! The last question: what does Rocycle mean to you?

Rocycle is a place where you can be yourself and be proud of who you are. That feeling after you ride! You will bring the energy from your ride into your daily life. The energy is contagious.
