Tell us about yourself

I was born in Amsterdam, raised in The Hague in a family with 5 siblings and I have a Carribean background. Since I can remember I’ve loved to dance, move and listen to music. From a young age I started with ballet, streetdance and in high school. I attended the Institute of Performing Arts in Amsterdam. After high school I decided to keep on dancing on the side and study Biomedical Sciences. I worked in Science communication at the University and decided at the beginning of this year to go after what really makes me happy. It`s still a journey, but dancing and sports are definitely part of it. I can`t imagine my life without it.

5 facts about Aline

  • Besides a Rocycle instructor I am a pole dancer
  • I have a twinsister and a younger brother and sisters who are also twins ( and one brother in the middle)
  • I`m addicted to avocado. Used to eat them with only salt when I was younger
  • When I was younger I wanted to be a flight attendant or lawyer

What profession other than Rocycle instructor would you like to attempt?

I`ve discovered that I really like teaching and motivating people as an fitness instructor. So for now that is going to be my main focus. I`m also very creative, I like sewing and designing clothing, so maybe that combined with my background in dancing and sports. You never know what will come out. But I would love to do something in the future with my knowledge and sports combined. It is kind of scary not knowing what the future holds, but also really exciting because it feels like I`m becoming a better version of myself every day.

Why should people join your classes? My classes are really about feeling good about yourself inside and out. Regardless of any judgement from yourself or others. Whether you have a good day or a bad day, most important thing that I want to give the riders is a smile on their face when they walk out the studio. I want them to have fun. Also I try to let people connect to their mind and not only think about the exercise or doing the movements in a correct way. leave all, worries and negativity behind. Be proud and thankful of what you`re doing every single day. In and outside of class. Everyone can do an exercise in a good way if you practice it enough. Value what you`re doing and what you are capable of, that`s a whole different story.

Which song is your guilty pleasure?Haha this makes me laugh right away, but I love the song Push It from Salt- N-Pepa right now. When I like a track I will listen to it too often and after a couple of weeks I`m sick of it. Maybe if you ask me next month I will have another favorite track.

What is the best Rocycle advise you have been given?LET IT GO. Sometimes we have the tendency to take things personal or let things that are not important really affect our everyday life. While, when you put it into perspective or look at it from a distance it`s not that bad at all and you find a better way to deal with certain struggles or resistance we face through life. Every single one of us, encounters trouble or hurt sometimes. Some more than others, but you always have a choice in how to deal with it and how much it will affect you. It`s good to realize that some things are just better letting them go.

What means happiness to you?

Happiness to me is something that you feel when you can be whoever you want to be and wear it with pride. Not caring about what others think of who you are and what you do. Do whatever you want to do and get a smile on your face while doing it. Happiness is feeling so good about yourself, no matter what happens no one can take it away from you. Being thankful and appreciative of what you have in your life or what awaits you in the future.

What has been your most memorable moment of you Ro career so far?

My first class as an instructor at Rocycle. It`s was really cool! Everything that you worked so hard for and learned in those weeks of training finally all came together. There were a lot of people. It was at Zuidas on a Sunday and the energy was amazing. It really felt like I was in a happy place and everyone in the studio was there with me. I saw people walking out with a big smile on their faces and that`s what I want to accomplish from now on.
